12 Prayers For My 12-Year-Old Son

My oldest turned 12 yesterday. I learn more and more each year that I need God’s grace, wisdom, strength, and patience to love and lead him well. I’m also learning that what he needs most comes from God. So I find myself praying more and more….

Here are 12 things I jotted down in my journal yesterday as I prayed for him:

  1. May he treasure Jesus above all (Philippians 3:8)
  2. May he love others and walk in costly kindness toward them (Galatians 6:2, 1 Corinthians 13)
  3. May he use his sharp intellect and talents for gospel advancement (Exodus 36:1, Matt. 28:18-20)
  4. May he love the Bible (Psalm 119:47-48)
  5. May he always sense safety in us; his parents (Colossians 3:21, Luke 15:11-32)
  6. May he find a small number of close, Jesus-loving, lifelong friends (Psalm 18:24)
  7. May he out pray me (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
  8. May he find a godly wife to love and cherish (Proverbs 31, Ephesians 5:25-33)
  9. May he learn to quickly identify idols of the heart and repent often (Ezekiel 14:3, Mark 1:14)
  10. May he love the local church (Ephesians 5:25)
  11. May he walk in sexual purity (Job 31:1, 1 Corinthians 6:18)
  12. May he be ruthlessly generous with his life and resources (2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
